Palestinian student Malak Ziad Al-Amer was abducted by terrorist Israel at the illegal occupation checkpoint of “Doutan”, southwest of the occupied Palestinian city of Jenin, on Wednesday, 25 September 2024, only an hour after her family home was demolished in Jenin refugee camp.

Malak is the sister of Nidal Ziad Al-Amer, who was assassinated by occupation forces on 3 July 2024. Occupation forces, disguised in a civilian car with a Palestinian license plate, invaded Jenin’s industrial area and assassinated Nidal, shooting him dead.

Nidal, 23, was a leader in the Jenin refugee camp at the time of his assassination, following in the footsteps of his and Malak’s father, Ziad Al-Amer, who was one of the leaders of the Jenin battle of 2002. Nidal was pursued by the occupation, deeply involved in the resistance in Jenin, battling the occupying forces invading the camp and city and targeting their “Nimer” armored personnel carrier with explosives.

Nidal was also a former prisoner, who was abducted by the occupation on at least three occasions, including in 2022 and 2018. The demolition of his and Malak’s family home today is part and parcel of the policy of collective punishment and targeting of the families of the martyrs, prisoners, and resistance fighters pursued by the occupation.

Ziad Al-Amer, Malak and Nidal’s father was a renowned leader of the struggle in Jenin, one of the four commanders of the Palestinian resistance to the occupation forces in 2002 as a leader of Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades. Martyred in the battle of Jenin, Ziad Al-Amer was a close comrade of Zakaria Al-Zubaidi, today imprisoned as one of the heroes of the Freedom Tunnel Gilboa prison escape of 2021.

The Al-Amer family are refugees from Al-Mansi, near Haifa, and were forced from their homes and lands by the Zionist occupation in the 1947-1948 Nakba. They have been denied their right to return to their homes since that time, and have unremittingly struggled for the liberation of Palestine’s land and people.

Malak and Nidal’s cousins, Ayham and Ayser Al-Amer, were also both martyred in the struggle against the occupation. Both resistance fighters defending Jenin and struggling for the liberation of Palestine, Ayser was martyred on 26 October 2023 and Ayham only two weeks later, on 9 November 2023. Their brother, also named Ziad, is currently imprisoned by the occupation.

Both Ayser, a founder of the Jenin Brigades, and Ayham, were liberated Palestinian prisoners. Ayser spent 5 years in occupation prisons and was last released only months before his martyrdom. Ayham spent 7 years behind Zionist bars and was also detained and tortured by the Palestinian Authority under “security coordination” with the Zionist regime before he escaped from PA detention in 2022.

The abduction of Malak Ziad Al-Amer, on the same day as the destruction of her family home, is part and parcel of the policy of collective punishment of the Al-Amer family for their steadfast commitment to the liberation of Palestine and their tremendous sacrifices to achieve that goal.

Freedom for Malak Al-Amer and all Palestinian prisoners in Zionist jails!
