one thing i wanna really emphasize is that medical (and more general scientific) images aren't truth, but visualization of knowledge. it's really important to understand their context and what the, yes, artist wanted to show you in order to interpret them.

testes start out in a similar position as ovaries, but typically descend before or even somewhat after birth. conversely, even when ovaries are up in the abdomen, they still are connected to the place where testes would normaly be via the round ligament/gubernaculum

the vas deferens (where the sperm goes through) developmentally forms in a similar place (skipping out details here, search mesonephric and paramesonephric duct for more) as a potential uterus would form, so it kind of has to go back into the body the same way the testes descended in order to meet back up at the prostate

iirc ovaries descend too during the same timeframe as testes, but not as much, as they still (again, typically) stay within the abdomen
