"Paradise" by Yxta Maya Murray

Venue: Svetlovka library, Bolshaya Sadovaya st., 1 (metro Mayakovskaya).

The 2017–2018 California wildfire season caused more than $45 billion in damage and killed approximately 150 people. The town of Paradise suffered one of the most violent of these conflagrations in 2018, when its citizens saw 85% of their own consumed. Five months later, President Donald Trump refused to sign a bill that would provide relief for these items, as well as for those of the recent hurricane and flooding disasters.

It was these events that prompted the American writer and law professor Yxta Maya Murray to write the story "Paradise", which we will discuss at the next club meeting.
