IP Counsel at LG Energy

Qualifications and skills:
• University degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Industrial Engineering or comparable qualification (knowledge in battery technology a plus)
• Admission as European and/or German Patent Attorney
• 2 to 6 years of law firm and/or in-house experience
• Ability to present complex technical and legal issues in an understandable and convincing manner in German and English
• Korean language skills would be an advantage, but are not required
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally

Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic advice on IP issues and enhance patent portfolio
• Identify new inventions and manage prosecution of EP patent applications
• Assist with IP due diligence activities and assessment of litigation risks
• Provide IP litigation support
• Review and draft agreements for IP transactions, R&D projects and commercial contracts with IP terms
• Provide training to members of LG Energy Solution and its affiliates in Europe
• Work closely with other in-house members and outside attorneys to accomplish assigned tasks and goals

Qualifications and skills:
• Technical or scientific degree (Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D.) highly desirable
• 5+ years of experience in IP/Legal in multiple jurisdictions
• Candidates with in-house or law firm experience welcome
• Superb technical, written and verbal communication in English
• Admitted to the practice law desirable, but not required
• Able to transition to IP Counsel in 2-3 years

Responsibilities:
• Manage the IP portfolio and assist with patent searching and identification
• Support external IP Counsel in patent creation activities, helping to draft and prosecute patent applications
• Assist with the IP lifecycle plan, evaluating which IP to maintain and which to abandon
• Advise and support implementation of the IP strategy on a range of related IP/legal issues
• Understand the Company’s business objectives, competitors and strategic direction to guide R&D activities
• Assess patent landscapes to identify gaps, risk areas, etc., and appropriately guide teams
• Analyze patent claims, prepare claim charts, and work with external IP Counsel and the development teams to avoid potential infringement of third-party patents
• Support internal inventors and developers in generating inventions and submitting invention disclosures (to meet targets set by management)
• Help development team members set up and monitor patent publication alerts, both from patent offices and other service providers, as required
• Understand control points that have the potential to provide optimum IP protection to the Company’s technologies and innovations
• Communicate extensively with the internal team consisting of developers, architects, managers, as well as liaise effectively with external IP Counsel (and source agents, if necessary)
• Implement and enforce existing IP policies, propose changes to existing policies and support the development of new policies, as required

Qualifications and skills:
• Technical/chemistry/life science education on minimum bachelor's level or equivalent
• Experience from a law firm or industrial IP-department is preferred
• R&D - Innovation is a project-oriented organization and familiarity to project driven work is acknowledged

• Experience in using patent information databases (PatSnap, PatBase, or STN are preferred)
