Maruti Suzuki to issue preferential shares to parent for Guj plant
Maruti Suzuki will issue preferential equity shares to parent Suzuki Motor Corporation to buy out the Gujarat plant, the process of which is aimed to be concluded by FY24-end. In a board meeting, option of cash payment and issue of equity shares for the deal were discussed. Data, however, showed PAT, earnings/share and dividend will be higher in share-swap option.

Top US official holds 'difficult' talks with Niger coup leaders
A senior US official on Monday travelled to Niger and held talks with Niger's military leaders following last month's coup. US Acting Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said the talks were "extremely frank and at times quite difficult". However, the coup leaders refused her requests to meet with ousted President Mohamed Bazoum or with junta leader Abdourahamane Tiani.

Judge rejects Trump's defamation case against writer who won sex abuse case against him
A federal judge has rejected a lawsuit by former US President Donald Trump in which he claimed he had been defamed by writer E Jean Carroll after she won a sex abuse case against him. The judge said Carroll's statements were at least "substantially true", adding that Trump failed to show she made them with actual malice.

Talking about world number two Novak Djokovic, his coach Goran Ivanisevic said that Djokovic "remains the only dinosaur among those older ones" and the rest are "young guys". Roger Federer took retirement in 2022 while Rafael Nadal is struggling with an injury and has been ruled out of the entire season. Djokovic has won 23 Grand Slam men's singles titles.

India bans makers of military drones from using Chinese parts: Report
India has banned domestic manufacturers of military drones from using Chinese parts, Reuters reported. At two meetings held in February and March to discuss drone tenders, potential bidders were told by military officials that equipment from "countries sharing land borders with India will not be acceptable for security reasons". Vendors were asked to reveal components' origin, the report claimed.

Woman charged ₹60 for food containers on delivery in Ahmedabad, Zomato clarifies
A woman complained on X that she was charged ₹60 for food containers on a delivery order placed through Zomato in Ahmedabad. Sharing a picture of the bill, the woman wrote, "Container charge is equivalent to item that I have ordered...Seriously?" Zomato responded, "Packaging charges are levied by...restaurant partners, they are the ones who implement and earn from this practice."

No signature needed: AAP as Raghav Chadha accused of forging signatures
After AAP MP Raghav Chadha was accused of forging the signatures of five MPs, AAP's Sanjay Singh said any MP can propose names for the select committee without their signatures. Chadha had moved a motion proposing a select committee to examine the Delhi Services Bill. At least two MPs claimed their names were included in the proposal without their consent.

Indian-origin man jailed, to be lashed 12 times for sexually assaulting maid in Singapore
An Indian-origin man, Mark Kalaivanan Tamilarasan, has been sentenced to 18 years of preventive detention and 12 strokes for sexually assaulting a maid in Singapore. He had broken into a flat in 2017 and attacked a maid, before sexually assaulting her. This incident took place shortly after he was released from 16 years of jail for rape charges.

2 Russian missiles hit apartment in Ukraine; 8 killed & 31 injured
Eight people were killed and 31 others were injured after Russian missiles struck the centre of Ukraine's Pokrovsk, including a residential building, twice on Monday, regional governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared a video of the building that had its top floor destroyed in the attack. "Russia will be held accountable for everything it has done," he tweeted.

33 yrs later, J&K Police reopens Kashmiri Pandit judge Neelkanth Ganjoo's murder case
Thirty-three years after Kashmiri Pandit judge Neelkanth Ganjoo's murder, the State Investigative Agency (SIA) of J&K Police has launched a fresh investigation. It sought information from the general public to unearth the "larger criminal conspiracy". Justice Ganjoo, who was killed by militants in 1989, had sentenced JKLF founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhat to death for a police officer's murder.
