U.S. President Joe Biden plans to ask Congress for the largest amount of aid to Ukraine yet, possibly up to $100 billion, The Telegraph reported on Oct. 7.

Biden hopes that a "one-and-done" funding package will allow him to bypass the deadlock with congressional Republicans and free up enough aid for Ukraine to last until the 2024 presidential election.

⚡️Russia claims missile attacks on Crimea.

A missile attack hit Russian-occupied Crimea at around 6 p.m. local time, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed on Oct. 7.

The ministry later reported a second attack at 10 p.m. local time.

Both attacks were carried out with converted S-200 anti-aircraft missiles, the Defense Ministry said.

Explosions were reported near Dzhankoi, Yevpatoriia, and Krasnoperekopsk.

‘Every family affected’: Devastated village copes with aftermath of Russian strike on funeral

The village of Hroza had a pre-war population of around 300 residents. Since many have fled since the start of the full-scale invasion, the attack on Oct. 5 killed roughly half of the residents who have stayed.

This was the first strike on the village during the full-scale invasion. Villagers and the law enforcement agency investigating the Russian attack believe that someone among the locals may have informed Russian forces about the funeral, which was supposed to involve military personnel.

⚡️Ukraine, Japan start negotiations on bilateral security guarantees agreement.

Ukraine and Japan have started the first round of negotiations on a bilateral agreement on security guarantees, Ukraine's Presidential Office said on Oct. 7.

The talks demonstrate "global support for Ukraine, which goes far beyond Europe and North America," Ihor Zhovka, the lead negotiator and deputy head of Ukraine's Presidential Office, said.

⚡Military: Russia launches over 700 strikes on Kupiansk-Lyman axis in one day.

Over the past day, Ukrainian forces have recorded 774 Russian strikes on the Kupiansk-Lyman direction of the front line in Kharkiv and Luhansk oblasts, Eastern Force Grouping spokesperson Illia Yevlash said on air on Oct. 7.

The number of strikes is "one of record figures" Yevlash said.
